Subang Jaya, 13 October 2016 – PROTON Holdings Berhad ("PROTON" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the winners for the Proton Search Contest 2016 ("the Contest"). Mohd Isa bin Ibrahim Shah, 85, a former civil servant, who formerly worked with RISDA, bagged the Grand Prize of the new Proton Saga, for the contest with his heart touching story on how his manual 1985 Proton Saga brought much joy and meaning to the family.
According to Mohd Isa, the Proton Saga is so reliable that not only it served his family, but more importantly, the car has dutifully helped him in his charitable works with the indigenous folks until today.
The other 10 consolation prize winners are Abdul Razak bin Ahmad, Azizah binti Junid, Ishrat Banu binti Hassan, Mohd Jamil Chew bin Abdullah, Mustapa bin Kassim and Wong Sok Kim @ Wong Sok Kum (owners of car made in 1985); Govindarajoo s/o Periasamy, Mohd Tajuddin bin Idris, Samian bin Sawiyo and Thangaras s/o Doraisamy (owners of car made in 1986).
This maiden contest which was held for a period of 13 weeks from 8 March to 8 June 2016, received a total of 866 entries from Proton owners of all races nationwide who have been driving Proton cars produced from 1985 to 2012. The entries include cars from the maiden version of Saga through to Exora. The Contest was organized to search for the longest owned Proton car which is still running and in relatively good condition. The contestants were also required to share warm memories of their cars either through written stories or short videos.
The Contest was held in conjunction with the launch of 'The New PROTON' campaign in February this year as part of the 'Customers First' initiative to provide better customer experience to our Proton owners. The Contest is intended to demonstrate our commitment to building, maintaining and rewarding our loyal customers.
"We were very encouraged by the overwhelming submissions from our loyal customers and supporters. It is also heartening to see that the number of 1985 Saga which are still plying our roads clearly show that our cars are very reliable and have played a significant role in enriching the lives of these owners with their various recollection of their most precious moments with the cars," said Dato' Radzaif Mohamed, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
He further added, "The Contest brought many of the oldest single owners of Proton cars to share their wonderful stories which many Malaysians, I believe, are able to relate and connect with. This certainly resonates with our objective of producing affordable cars with the best value and quality for our customers."
The winners were chosen by a panel of professional judges to evaluate the submissions for both the technical as well as their experience with the car. They include the heads of various departments in PROTON, led by Azhari Che Hassan, General Manager of Vehicle Development and Engineering of PROTON and guest judges, Hezeri Samsuri and Salihin Rahim from the online motoring blog, Careta.my.
The first round of judging involves filtering through the entry forms for completed submissions according to the terms stated in the entry form. The entries were then divided into the year the car was produced and the length of ownership.
After the initial filtering, the judges went through the stories to find the most heart-warming written or video entries, and the entries were then shortlisted. The judges then visited the homes of the shortlisted owners to inspect the condition of their cars to verify that the cars are still roadworthy. For transparency and authenticity purposes, the selection process was audited by PROTON's Internal Audit Department.
The winners were also treated to an opportunity for a plant tour, a walkabout at PROTON's Research and Development (R&D) facilities covering the Design Studio and test labs and finally an adventure of a joyride in Proton cars at the Test Track.
