Penang Gerakan wants the Pakatan Harapan state government to declassify the Bayan Bay land reclamation project agreement for public scrutiny if it is indeed true that the project was approved only this year.
Its secretary Oh Tong Keong alleged the project to reclaim 24.79 acres was actually approved in 2013, a few months after the general election despite a signboard at the project site stating May 15, 2015 as the date of approval.
"To ease public confusion over it, we want the state government to declassify the agreement of the Bayan Bay (land) reclamation and make the documents public as people have the right to know about it," Oh said in a statement.
By declassifying the document, he said, Penangites would know whether the state government had awarded the project to Ideal Gim Venture Sdn Bhd via an open tender or not, including the actual cost and price of the reclaimed land.
